How to Choose the Ideal Size for Your 4K TV
The right size does not only depend on your personal preferences but can actually be determined based on factors such as where you want to put it and how far away you’ll be watching it from.
So, to help you find the ideal size 4K TV for your home, we’ve put together this simple guide.
How to Measure a TV?
Before we dig a little deeper, let’s clear up the basics. What does screen size actually refer to? A TVs screen size, such as 65", refers to the diagonal length of the screen without bezels. However, the actual size might differ depending on the model. To measure this, extend a measuring tape from the bottom left to the upper right corner of your screen. As you might have noticed, screen size doesn’t say much about the TVs actual dimensions. To accurately measure the size of a TV, you should also take into account its height, width and depth.
Where are you going to put the TV?
Let's start with the place, in other words, the spot or corner where you want to put your TV. The location is very important when choosing the size of the TV, as the space you have available to use will determine its size. Naturally, it you're looking for a large TV, you'll need a larger space. On the other hand, if you're looking for a second TV to put in your kitchen or guest room, you can opt for a small TV. Even so, you should always keep several things in mind.
The TV should be placed near a TV connection. In fact, the closer the better. That way, you'll avoid a messy pile of cables.
The most comfortable and secure option is to look for a flat, stable surface. For example, using a low piece of furniture to support the TV, as we've done all our lives, is the perfect location. Also, a few models, like Panasonic TVs, have a variable base so that you can turn the TV in the direction you want.
If you don't have much space, you can hang the TV on a wall, but make sure that the wall can hold its weight. Choose good, fixed supports (there are even ones that incline and ones with arms) and organise the cables well.
Where are you going to put the TV?
Another important factor to keep in mind before buying a TV is the distance from which you are going to sit when watching it. It isn’t good to sit too close or too far. In fact, you need to be aware that the larger the screen is, the higher viewing quality you’ll have. Therefore, if you have a very large TV and you sit very close to the screen, the image will be pixelated, but if you have a small TV and sit very far from the screen, we won’t see it correctly.
There are a few formulas which allow you to calculate the optimum distance for your TV with respect to its size, and viceversa. The simplest seems to be the following:
*The numbers are approximate calculations and vary depending on each person.
