Development intentions

• A versatile, large-aperture standard lens
The LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 II ASPH. was developed as a standard reference large-aperture lens for the LUMIX G Series. It is possible to achieve a wide-angle effect, middle-telephoto effect, or telephoto effect by adjusting the combination of shooting angle, subject distance, and aperture effect. It serves as an almighty standard lens for ordinary shooting and also as a basic lens to enjoy profound photographic experiences for many years to come.

Image rendering performance target and technologies incorporated to achieve the development goal

• High- precision contrast AF
The LUMIX G Series is equipped with a contrast AF system and offers higher focusing accuracy than a phase-difference AF system. This lens was engineered in pursuit of the highest image rendering performance clearing LEICA’s stringent standards. The combination of the LUMIX G camera body’s high-speed, high- precision contrast AF and this lens results in exceptional shooting thanks to the lens’ excellent image rendering performance and the LUMIX G Series’ remarkable focusing performance.
*LUMIX G Series models newer than GH4 utilize a newly developed DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology to realize a faster and more accurate AF system.

• Sharp and clear image rendering power
This LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm / F1.4 II ASPH. lens boasts superb image rendering performance in spite of its large aperture. The use of one ultra-high refractive UHR(Ultra-High Refractive Index) glass lens and two glass-molded aspherical lenses realizes uniform rendering from the center of the frame to the edges, while the Nano Surface Coating minimizes ghosts, flare and flare rate, thus boosting tonal reproduction and image clarity. Furthermore, the inner-focus system assures stable and high rendering and high-speed, silent drive across the entire range from infinity to the closest shooting distance.

Tips on photographic techniques

Wide-angle effect

Medium-telephoto effect

Telephoto effect

Shooting angle

Angle shooting /low angle/ high angle

Straightforward positioning of the subject in front of the camera

Shooting from a close distance to the subject at a natural angle

Aperture

Close the aperture as much as possible.

Open the aperture as much as possible.

Set the aperture close to full open.

Tips

Use the perspective effect to achieve enhanced depth representation and greater depth of field across the entire image field.

Utilize the natural perspective and bokeh effect on the foreground and background.

Draw on the natural perspective, close subject distance and natural near and far bokeh.
