The DMC-FZ200 features a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 25mm ultra wide-angle lens with a 24x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm) that achieves full range F2.8. It enables capturing a moving subject at a distance clearly and with a fast shutter speed.
Also, the Panasonic’s black box technology Nano Surface Coating boasts extremely low reflectance ratio and it is applied to the DMC-FZ200 for exceptional optical performance with stunning clarity by minimising flaring and ghosts.
High Sensitivity MOS Sensor for Noise-Free Shooting
The new 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor boasts excellent S/N ratio resulting in super clear image with less noise even in high sensitivity recording. Together with the high performance image processing LSI Venus Engine, it elevates the response, sensitivity and image quality even to the higher level.
Light Speed AF and
Burst Shooting
The Light Speed AF helps to catch even the most fleeting
photo opportunities. You can quickly focus on moving
subjects, such as when you’re shooting sports scenes or
animals. The DMC-FZ200 boasts the quick start-up time of
approx. 0.95 sec. Together with the Light Speed AF, the
DMC-FZ200 never misses the most fleeting shooting
opportunities.
The 12.1-megapixel MOS sensor lets the DMC-FZ200
shoot 12fps in full resolution with mechanical shutter.
You can take a series of shots, then choose the ones you
like the best and delete the rest.
1920 x 1080p Full-HD Video Recording
The DMC-FZ200 can record full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos in AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4 / H.264) format. Featuring 50p full-HD recording capability, subjects with fast motion or fine details are reproduced clearly.
The DMC-FZ200 can also record full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 25p videos in MP4 format. This format is suitable for editing videos on a computer or uploading those to websites.
1312K-dot Equivalent High-Resolution EVF
The newly developed 0.2-inch EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) features 1,312K-dot equivalent high resolution, 100% field of view. Thanks to the increased frame rate from 30fps to max. 60 fps, screen freeze is also minimised making it suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects under strong sunlight.
POWER O.I.S. with Active Mode
The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) suppresses the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. The POWER O.I.S. also works for powerful zoom shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake. Active mode is effective for video recording.
AFF Mode
The newly added focus mode AFF (AF Flexible) locks on the focus when shutter button is half-pressed, however, if the subject moves, the focusing is reset to get the best results.
Creative Control / Creative Retouch
You can add different effects by applying one of the filters both in the recording mode (Creative Control) and the playback mode (Creative Retouch).
Panorama Shot
The Panorama Shot Mode in the Scene Mode makes it
possible to shoot a horizontal / vertical panoramic image
with consequent shots taken by overlaying the previous
image.
24x Optical Zoom in
Video Recording
The 24x optical zoom will capture highly natural
expressions from people and animals and dynamic sports
scenes. The side lever makes it smoother to zoom. Focus
can also be changed with this lever, which is convenient in
video recording.
High-speed Videos in HD Quality
The DMC-FZ200 records high-speed videos at 100 fps HD* or 200 fps VGA* in MP4 format. You can capture scenes that can't be seen with the naked eye, and play them back in dramatic slow motion.
* The recording format is 25p.
Creative Video Mode
The Creative Video Mode lets you adjust the shutter speed and aperture any way you like when shooting videos.
Stereo Microphone
Incorporating a stereo zoom microphone, the videos also come with the high-quality stereo sound of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator, to offer highly realistic sound to the video. Mechanical noise caused by a zooming operation is suppressed to improve the clearness.

3.0-inch Free-angle Monitor
A 3.0-inch 3:2 460K-dot free-angle LCD rotates 180° to the side and tilts 270° up and down. This monitor enables dynamic, artistic framing with high-angle shots and low-angle shots. It's convenient when shooting with a tripod too.
iA (Intelligent Auto) / iA Plus Mode
In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose shots and capture moments in both photo and video recording. In addition, the iA Plus Mode enables you to adjust defocusing area, exposure compensation and white balance by just moving the slider.
Rich Options for Expandability
For more advanced creative freedom, the DMC-FZ200 is equipped with a hot shoe allowing attachment of various accessories including an optional stereo microphone (DMW-MS1) or an optional external flash (DMW-FL360LE). The DMC-FZ200 is also compatible with an optional remote shutter (DMW-RSL1) for advanced expression in photography.

Panasonic has done almost everything right with the FZ200, producing a super zoom with a no-compromises lens. It performs very well, takes photos that are comparable (or better) than other super zooms, and has a top-notch movie mode. With a few refinements in the design and image quality department, it would be darn close to perfect.
