HEAT PUMP TIPS TO REDUCE YOUR POWER BILL THIS WINTER

lm_1_7_lc_1_150428

At Panasonic, we are passionate about reducing energy consumption in the home. During the winter months, making your house a warm and comfortable place for your family can increase power bills and energy consumption, which is a big concern for many New Zealanders.

With Panasonic’s stylish and smart heat pumps you’ll enjoy more savings and stay comfortable in your home at all times. Our ECONAVI technology automatically senses conditions in your home and operation is optimised accordingly, and Inverter technology ensures less energy is used to maintain set temperatures.

If you are looking for further energy savings when heating your home this winter, we’ve put together some useful tips on how you can reduce your power consumption, save money, and get the most out of your heat pump.

MASTER YOUR HEAT PUMP SETTINGS
To receive maximum benefits from your heat pump in the winter months, ensure that your remote control settings are on ‘HEAT’ mode and your fan speed and louver are both set on ‘AUTO’. This helps your heat pump determine room conditions and operate more efficiently. You can minimise your energy consumption further by setting your Panasonic heat pump to ‘ECONAVI’ mode.

KEEP TEMPERATURES CONSISTENT
On a chilly winter evening, many people think that blasting warmer temperatures from their heat pumps from start-up will make their home feel warmer. However, switching between a large range of temperatures means that the heat pump has to work harder and therefore consumes a larger amount of energy. It is more energy efficient to set the heatpump to the desired temperature, around 21 – 23 degrees, and then leave the heatpump to maintain this temperature for the evening.

However if you do need an extra boost to warm up your room quickly, make sure you use the ‘Powerful’ button. This will make your heat pump operate at full capacity for a maximum period of 20 minutes and then the unit will return back to the normal temperature setting.

USE YOUR TIMERS
All Panasonic heat pumps are equipped with easy-to-use timers which can be set-up in three simple steps. For maximum comfort, set your timer for one hour before you wake-up in the morning and one hour before you arrive home in the evening. This means that your home will be the perfect temperature when you need it, and you won’t waste energy or money on heating when you’re not home.

CLOSE YOUR CURTAINS AND BLINDS
Closing your curtains or blinds in the evening will provide an extra barrier and add insulation helping reduce drafts and keep your room warmer.

KEEP DOORS CLOSED
When heating your living room or bedroom, keep hallway doors closed until the rooms have heated up properly. This will allow the heat pump to warm up spaces quicker, and you’ll heat parts of your home which you occupy most frequently.

KEEP ON-TOP OF YOUR MAINTENANCE
Make sure you clean your heat pump filters regularly so it can run more efficiently. The filter is easy to keep clean and can be washed in water at home. The front panel removes quickly with a simple one-step operation. You’ll find that a heat pump with a clean filter doesn’t consume as much energy.

Make sure you keep the area around the outdoor unit tidy and clean as well. When objects are placed near the outdoor unit, they may block the exhaust port and reduce its ability to disperse heat efficiently which increases power consumption.

CHECK YOUR REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES
If your heat pump hasn’t been used during the summer months, you might need to change the batteries in your remote control. To change the batteries, simply slide the front cover off your remote control. The front cover will slide all the way off so you can easily access the batteries.
