How to Keep Salad Fresh for Longer
Do you normally end up disposing your salad greens because you don’t consume them quick enough Here is a trick on how to keep your salad fresh for weeks.
- Fill a large bowl with cold water. Discard any bruised of wilted leaves.
- Soak the salad in the cold water. Gently lift them out place in a colander. Change the water and rinse off any sediments left in the bottom of the bowl. Submerge the salad again. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times until the salad is clean.
- After the salad is cleaned, place it in a salad spinner to remove any excess water. If you do not have a salad spinner, you can place the salad on a paper towel and gently pat dry.
- Prepare a plastic container. Place a piece of paper towel on the bottom of the container and place a layer of salad leaves over it. Cover with another piece of paper towel. Follow this process until you are done with all the salad leaves, ending with a layer of paper towel at the top. Alternatively, you can place the salad in a sealer bag with the paper towel instead of container. Place the container or sealer bag in the refrigerator. If you are using a sealer bag, store the bag in the chiller drawer with plenty of breathing space because the salad is easily bruised if there are lots of other vegetables cramped up with the salad.
