How to Cook Healthy Oat Porridge in a Microwave Oven
Start your day off with a healthy breakfast. Cooking oat porridge in a microwave oven is quick and easy. Just mix the oatmeal, milk or water and a pinch of salt together in a microwave safe dish.
Stir and cook on micro power high for 2-3 minutes. Stir again, then heat for another 1 -3 minutes. Remove and stir well.
The longer you cook, the thicker the oat porridge will get. Different proportions of oatmeal and milk will give you different thickness. Below is a basic recipe and you can adjust to your own liking. If you find the oatmeal too thick for you, simply add more milk to dilute it.
- 1 cup of oat meal
- 2 ½ cup of milk
- pinch of salt
Once done, you can add in extra milk, sugar, honey, raisin, nuts or muesli depending on your preference.
Tips
- If you prefer a lighter version, just replace milk with water when cooking.
- During the cooking, if you see that the oat porridge is boiling over, stop the microwave and let the porridge subside then restart again.
- Make sure that your microwave safe dish is big enough for cooking to avoid spillover.
