Panasonic Group Supports Typhoon Haiyan Relief Efforts in the Philippines

9th December 2013, Singapore – In light of Super Typhoon Haiyan (local name Yolanda) that struck the Philippines’ central region, Panasonic Group of Companies in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region will commit a total of approximately US$ 145,000 to support relief efforts. The donation, which comprises of in-kind contributions such as clothing and medicine, will be made via the Philippines government and various humanitarian organisations within the country. This is on top of the initial JPY 5 million (US$ 48,553)1 contribution made by Panasonic headquarters in Japan on 19th November.

The donation includes 1,000 Panasonic Solar Lanterns as well as 96,720 batteries and 336 flashlights.

Given the devastation that has struck Philippines, much of the infrastructure and electricity lines have been severely affected. Panasonic Solar Lanterns were developed to provide off-grid energy solutions to areas with limited electrical infrastructure. With a 3.5 Watt solar panel and built-in rechargeable battery to store solar energy during the day, the lantern provides light at night and can also be used as a power source to charge small mobile devices like mobile phones. Panasonic sincerely hopes that the lanterns, batteries and flashlights will provide much needed light for the affected families, as well as effectively aid search and rescue efforts.

Panasonic and its employees express deep sympathy for the victims and their families and will continue to provide support as best as it can.
