Firmware Update Enhances Video Shooting Performance

RAW Video Data Output

The firmware update enables the output of RAW video data over HDMI to save it as ProRes RAW on ATOMOS NINJA V+ and NINJA V HDR monitor-recorders.* The Blackmagic RAW can also be recorded on Video Assist 12G HDR.**

A LUMIX Camera First: Apple ProRes Codec Video

Direct recording to USB-SSD

With the firmware version 2.2, recording and playback is supported using an external SSD via USB. In addition, the ability to record Apple ProRes 422 HQ (maximum 1.9Gbps) and 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra directly to SSDs, which combine portability and high capacity has improved efficiency in data backup and post-processing.

･A firmware update to version 2.3, an AC Adaptor DMW-AC10 (optional) and DC Coupler DMW-DCC17 (optional) are required to record HFR/VFR video of 61fps or higher on a USB-SSD. ･It is not possible to record video and photo on the SD card or CFexpress card simultaneously while recording it on the external SSD. ･Use an external SSD no more than 2 TB in size that is compatible with USB Type-C. We recommend using an external SSD whose operation has been confirmed by Panasonic. Note beforehand that this is not a guarantee of operation on all devices. ･Latest information on the external SSDs will be available at the following support site at the same time as firmware release: https://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/index.html

In a first for the Micro-four thirds system, the sensor can combine dual simultaneous readouts of high & low gain circuitry producing higher dynamic range with improved detail in highlights.

The high-speed readout delivers C4K/4K 100/120p video recording and 5.7K 50/60p for ultra-smooth slow motion with minimal rolling shutter distortion.

Powered by the new Venus engine, the camera packs twice the processing power to enable higher resolutions, frame rates and bit rates than previously. The processor now supports recording in Apple ProRes HQ internally to CF Express Card for high quality low compression video capture.

To satisfy the requirements of 4K productions, the GH6 can deliver 4x slow motion in HFR C4K/4K 10-bit 120p/100p..

5.7K 10-bit 50/60p Recording

Those seeking higher than 4K, the GH6 LUMIX Camera offers 5.7K 10-bit 50/60p recording with flexibility for greater than 4K delivery in slow-motion and speed ramping or digital zoom and pan in post-production.

The GH6 LUMIX Camera supports multiple options for Anamorphic video, including 5.8K 10 bit 4:3 mode with de-squeezed preview. Handheld anamorphic shooting is made possible with in-body stabilisation system in anamorphic mode, opening a wide range of possibilities for filmmaking.

Smooth Handheld Shooting

Improving on the legacy of the GH5, the GH6 sets the bar for performance of Image Stabilisation (I.S.) systems. Panasonic’s Dual IS system is capable of 7.5-stops of correction for lenses with optical image stabilisation (O.I.S.) reducing the need for tripod or gimbal.

The system features multiple modes for smooth, handheld shots that don’t override intentional movement like panning. “IS Boost” is also included to replicate locked off tripod style shots.

Versatile Monitor to Shoot from any Angle

The first LUMIX G series camera to feature a tilt and free-angle rear monitor. The monitor can be rotated even with an HDMI or USB cable attached to the camera allowing greater flexibility when viewing the monitor while connected to an external recorder or other devices.

Double Memory Card Slot for Flexible Data Management

The LUMIX GH6 Camera supports high-bit-rate video recording with a double memory card slot* for a CFexpress Card (CFexpress Type B) and SD Memory Card (UHS-I/UHS-II UHS Speed Class 3, UHS-II Video Speed Class 90). This enables you to use different recording media depending on your shooting needs.

The dual recording mode in the GH6 allows you to save the same content to both cards at once — creating the all-important redundancy.

- The cards that can be used for recording vary depending on the motion pictures bit rate and format type.
Motion pictures with 72Mbp or less: CFexpress card, SD memory card with SD Speed Class with Class 10 or Video Speed Class 10 or higher
Motion pictures with 200Mbp or less: CFexpress card, SD memory card with UHS-I / UHS-II UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) or Video Speed Class 30 or higher
Motion pictures with 400Mbp or less: CFexpress card, SD memory card with Video Speed Class 60 or higher
Motion pictures with 600Mbp or less: CFexpress card, SD memory card with Video Speed Class 90

- 4:2:2 10-bit recording is a recording mode for film production and the video needs to be processed on PC. The original video cannot be played on standard TV, Blu-ray Disc™ recorder and Blu-ray Disc™ player. It may cause problems such as freezing when played on these devices.

- When the ambient temperature is high or continuous recording is performed, the camera may stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera cools down.

(*2) High-res audio is selectable only when attaching Φ3.5mm microphone or DMW-XLR1 (sold separately).
(*3) About AF
- Continuous AF is not available for High Frame Rate video shooting above 120p (200p or 240p). It will be the AFS operation for 1-Area AF. 200p High Frame Rate video shooting requires a firmware update for the compatible lens.
- Automatic Detection is not available for High Frame Rate video shooting above 60p (100p or 120p).
- Tracking and Automatic Detection are not available when using HDMI cable or USB connection cable for High Frame Rate video shooting (100p or 120p) above 60p.

(*4) To output motion pictures with 4K or higher,use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable (Type A–Type A plug, up to 1.5 m (4.9 feet) long).

(*5) Firmware must be updated to version 2.0.
