Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad (PMMA)’s Employees Tested Positive For COVID-19

Petaling Jaya, 22 December 2020 – As reported in various media platforms, Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad, a manufacturing company under the Panasonic Group of Companies in Malaysia, confirms that a total of 116 employees based at the company’s 2 manufacturing plants in Shah Alam were tested positive of the COVID-19.

This discovery was made after the company took its own initiative to conduct the COVID-19 screening for all its 2,137 employees including all the contractors. This action was decided after several employees were identified as close contacts with one Covid-19 patient. All the 116 employees who were tested positive did not show any signs of the symptoms (asymptomatic).

All affected members have been isolated as instructed by the Ministry of Health (KKM) and the Health District Office (PKD). Both manufacturing plants have ceased operation for a thorough sanitization exercise following the safety guidelines by the Ministry. The company will continue working very closely with the Ministry of Health and will extend its fullest cooperation to ensure the health and safety of all our stakeholders.

As the management office of Panasonic Group of companies in Malaysia, we would like to inform the members of the public that the 116 Panasonic employees tested positive is an isolated case happened at Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad plants, and so far not affecting to other companies in our group.

We wish to reaffirm that the health and wellbeing of our employees and members of the public are our utmost priority, and we will continue to be vigilant in our effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in January 2020, all the Panasonic Group of companies in Malaysia have implemented various preventive measures across our business operations and adhered to all the SOPs and requirements set by the authorities.

We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Health and any other relevant authorities to take all the necessary stringent measures as the safety of our staff and members of the public are of paramount importance to us.

Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad is one of 23 Panasonic Group of Companies in Malaysia located at different locations (please refer to the list overleaf). Apart from Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad, other companies in the Group are not affected by this incident.
