World’s First*¹ Verified Inhibitory Effect of nanoe™ (Nano-Sized Electrostatic Atomized Water Particle) on Adhered Novel Coronavirus in a 24 m³ test space
The tests are done on similar sized living spaces and now it’s ready to protect your home 24/7!
With Filipinos becoming more conscious of the health protocols, it is just right to be more active in knowing the benefits of our gadgets and appliances. Panasonic’s nanoe™ technology-equipped products could help you and your family prevent the spread of harmful pollutants inside your home and workspaces. The tests were conducted and small testing space is now a thing of the past, Panasonic has tested the nanoe™ technology on a bigger space to ensure your home and workspace are protected 24/7.

Osaka, Japan – Panasonic Corporation today announced that the company, in collaboration with the Japan Textile Products Quality Technology Center*2, has verified the inhibitory effect of nanoe™ on adhered novel coronavirus in a 24 m3 test space. This is the first time in the world that the inhibitory effect on adhered novel coronavirus has been verified in a test space almost as large as a daily living space.
nanoe™ is a technology that collects invisible moisture in the air and applies a high voltage to it to produce “hydroxyl radicals contained in water”. Hydroxyl radicals inhibit the growth of pollutants such as bacteria and viruses. They are characterized by being strongly oxidative and highly reactive, hence a short life span. Contained in tiny water particles, nanoe™ has a long lifespan and can spread over long distances. It has an inhibitory effect on both airborne and adhered substances.
The mutation of the amino acid in the spike protein has caused new variant strains with different infectivity, transmissibility, and antigenicity such as the increased binding capacity to cells and reduced binding to neutralizing antibodies. Consequently, the global spread of the novel coronavirus shows no sign of abating. Research is underway to identify the properties of the current dominant Omicron strain, but the increase in secondary infections in households and other factors suggest that its infectivity has increased compared to conventional strains, and further infection prevention measures are crucial.
Concerning the nanoe™ technology, Panasonic verified their inhibitory effect on the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) *3 in July 2020 and its inhibitory effect on four novel coronavirus variants*4 in November 2021. However, since the former verifications are the results of experiments in a small 45-liter test space, the effects in large spaces were only speculative.
Therefore, Panasonic carried out a comparative experiment in a 24 m3 test space to compare virus titers with and without exposure to nanoe™. A piece of gauze saturated with the Delta strain of the novel coronavirus was exposed to nanoe™ for 8 hours and the inhibitory effect of more than 99% was confirmed. Note that the verification results are based on a test in a closed test environment and not in actual living spaces.
Panasonic will continue to pursue the potential of nanoe™ technology using and providing safe and secure spaces to contribute to society.
• For reference
Testing the inhibitory effect of of nanoe technology confirmed on the adhered novel coronavirus Delta variant (SARS-CoV-2) in a test space of approximately 24 m3
• Overview
A comparative verification was conducted in a 24 m3 test space containing the adhered novel coronavirus Delta variant (SARS-CoV-2).
• Results
The reduction in virus infection titer of more than 99% against the adhered novel coronavirus Delta variant (SARS-CoV-2) with the nanoe™ technology was also verified in a 24 m3 test space.
Note: This verification was designed to generate basic research data on the effects of nanoe™ on the novel coronavirus in laboratory conditions different from those found in living spaces.

• Methodology and data
Organization : Japan Textile Products Quality and Technology Center (QTEC)
Subject : Adhered novel coronavirus Delta variant (SARS-CoV-2)
Device : nanoe™ device
Method :
▶ In a test space of 24 m3 (2,700 mm × 3,640 mm × 2,450 mm), place a piece of gauze saturated with the virus solution at a position 1.5 m from nanoe™ generator and 1.2 m from the floor, and exposed to nanoe™ (diffused into the test space by airflow from an air conditioner installed on the wall). *5
▶ The virus infection titer is measured, and the inhibition rate is calculated. *6
Principle of the generation of hydroxyl radicals
The atomization electrode is cooled by a Peltier element, which condenses moisture in the air to create water. Afterwards, a high voltage is applied across the atomization and the counter electrodes to generate “hydroxyl radicals contained in water” of approximately 5 to 20 nm in size.
Development of nanoe™ X*8
Earlier this year, Panasonic announced news about the nanoe™ X Generator Mark 2 that produces 9.6 trillion hydroxyl radicals per second – a level up in eliminating odors, inhibiting pollutants, and moisturizing skin and hair. The nanoe™ X Generator Mark 2 technology produces twice the number of hydroxyl radicals per second versus nanoe™ X Generator Mark 1 (4.8 trillion hydroxyl radicals per second) and 20 times the number of hydroxyl radicals per second versus nanoe™ (480 billion hydroxyl radicals per second).
A Continuing Commitment for A Better Life, A Better World
Panasonic is committed to pursue the potential of nanoe™ technology and verify its various effects to continuously contribute to society.
Alongside the research, Panasonic remains proactive in playing a key role in ensuring safer and healthier spaces with its unique and patented technology.

*1: Regarding ion emission type air cleaning technology (As of March 1, 2022, surveyed by Panasonic)
*2: The Japan Textile Quality Technology Center (QTEC) was established in 1993, which is a testing and evaluation institute for antibacterial and antiviral testing to meet the needs of society. It is an organization with the technology able to conduct various test methods defined by JIS, ISO, AATCC, ASTM, GB, KC, standards of inspection organizations, standards of companies such as department stores and mass merchandisers, standards of government agencies, QTEC standards, etc.
*3: Verification of the inhibitory effect of hydroxyl radicals contained in water on the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) (Released in July 2020)
*4: Verification of the inhibitory effect of the nanoe technology on four feared mutant strains of the new coronavirus (released in November 2021). The titer of the new coronavirus and the four mutant strains showed the same decreasing trend regardless of the strain. The same results can be expected for mutant strains that may emerge in the future if tested under the same conditions in 45L.
*5: Based on "Test method for evaluating air purifiers' performance in inhibiting viruses adhering indoors (established on July 4, 2011)" specified by the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association
*6: Calculated by Panasonic
*7: The air conditioner with nanoe™ on fan mode referred to as air blower in the test report
*8: nanoe™ X Generator Mark 1 generates 4.8 trillion hydroxyl radicals per second, a 10-fold volume compared with that of nanoe™.
