Mikolaj Nowacki was born in Wroclaw, Poland in 1972. He is a graduate of the University of Wroclaw, where he obtained a law degree in 1997. Nowacki then began Ph.D. studies in International Space Law. However, he renounced law to focus on his other passion, photography. From 2004 - 2011 he worked as a photojournalist with Poland's most influential daily newspapers, Gazeta Wyborcza and then Polska the Times. Nowacki published his photos and photo essays e.g. at National Geographic Proof , The New York Times Lens Blog, CNN Photos, Burn Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine, Le Monde, Stern, Neue Zürcher Zeitung and Polish editions of Newsweek, National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler. Nowacki has won numerous awards and was a finalist in international and Polish photography contests such as NPPA Best of Photojournalism, Paris Photography Prize (Px3), Sony World Photography Awards, National Geographic Photo Contest Poland, Grand Press Photo (Poland), BZWBK Press Photo (Poland). In 2013 Nowacki had his solo exhibition at prestigious VII Gallery in New York. His works have also been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Boston, USA, in Mexico, China, and New Zealand. In 2011- 2013 Nowacki was a member of VII Mentor Program, in prestigious VII Photo Agency. His mentor was Antonin Kratochvil.Since 2014 Nowacki has been an official photographer of National Geographic Poland.
