Capture a photo from video

You can easily capture a photo from your video clips that were taken with any kind of camera, including your mirrorless camera, 4K camera, dSLR, GoPro, or your iPhone.

The video here shows you how to capture photos in Photoshop CC as well as Adobe Lightroom. These methods are better than making a screen capture, which many people do, as it keeps the color profile intact. A screen capture uses the color profile of your screen, not of your original video.

Steps to capture photo from video using Photoshop

• Open Photoshop
• Open your video in Photoshop
• A timeline will appear along the bottom of your video
• Move the video scrubber slider along the video timeline to where you want to capture a photo
• Make any adjustments you like. You can use adjustment layers, add text, filters, etc.
• Save to your computer (at original video dimensions) to work on in Photoshop
• Export for web at a specific size and quality

Steps to capture photo from video using Adobe Lightroom

• Import video clips into your Lightroom catalogue
• You can use video from any source
• Video can only be edited using the Develop module
• Expand the video timeline so you can manually scrub through your video clip
• Find the frame you want to capture
• Click Capture Frame
• Refresh your Library view and the photo you captured will show up in the thumbnails
• You can now work in the Develop module and make any necessary adjustments
• When you’re done, export your photo with the size and compression settings you want
