Favourite Drink of the Advent Season
Enjoy Mulled Wine at Home
For freshly roasted chestnuts, chocolate, and gingerbread cookies, the Christmas market is probably the perfect place for treats of all kinds. Did you notice what's missing in our list? Mulled wine! What could be better for a relaxed meeting with friends than a mulled wine on the festively lit Christmas market? But where does the hot drink come from and can you create the same Christmas magic at home?
Hot, hotter, mulled wine
As soon as it gets cold, the masses are drawn to the Christmas markets. Finally, there is Christmas music and all sorts of delicacies. In addition, the hot drinks--because nobody should freeze at the Christmas market! Of course, mulled wine is a classic that should not be missing. The sweet mixture of red wine, sugar, spices, and lemon warms wonderfully from the inside.
This cinnamon infused drink has been a Christmas classic for hundreds of years!
Even the Romans knew what was good
The mulled wine is full of tradition: its history goes back to Roman times. Here, in the recipe book of Apicius, the "conditum paradoxum" has been described--in other words, an "exquisite spiced wine." At that time, the Romans were particularly interested in the durability of the wine. With honey and spices, the wine could be enjoyed much longer than pure.
It's easy: make mulled wine yourself
You want to enjoy delicious mulled wine in a cozy atmosphere but do not want to stand in the cold? The weather is thwarting the Christmas market visit? Just make your mulled wine yourself and invite a few close friends to your place! Making classic mulled wine on the Christmas market is not that difficult. You need:
• 1 bottle of dry organic red wine
• 2 bars of Ceylon cinnamon
• 3 cloves
• 1 orange sliced
• 2-3 tbsp sugar
• Vanilla pod (optional)
Just mix the ingredients with the red wine and heat it in the Combo Oven. This microwave is nearly 30% larger than your standard microwave. A large bowl full of mulled wine will easily fit.
Note: The red wine should not boil, otherwise the alcohol evaporates --and you do not want that.
Choose a wine
There are a few things to consider when choosing the right red wine: choose a local wine--it does not have to be anything out of the ordinary. Choose a dry or semi-dry wine that is fruity.
