New firmware adds 4K wired streaming via USB and LAN to Lumix GH5M2
USB tethering and wired LAN output offer Lumix GH5M2 users a faster and more stable live-stream, with resolutions of up to 4K says Damien Demolder
The latest firmware update for the Lumix GH5M2 brings wired streaming via USB to a smartphone as well as via LAN to a network to allow a more stable Internet connection and a higher resolution picture. Firmware version 1.1 brings 4K streaming in up to 60p in both H.264 and H.256, with data rates as high as 50Mbps when the camera is tethered via LAN to a PC running streaming software. The update also improves connections in the field by allowing tethering via USB (instead of Wi-Fi) to a smartphone, which in turn allows 4K resolution streaming on location with frame rates of up to 30p and 12.5Mbps. The wired USB connection improves on the FHD best quality settings for the wireless connection.
Wired streaming to a PC via a LAN connection also allows GH5M2 users to control multiple cameras using Panasonic’s free Lumix Tether software. Users will be able to remotely control the camera’s settings, adjust mounted PowerZoom lenses as well as take in a streaming feed at the same time to either a local RTP/RTSP software application or to broadcast directly to Facebook or YouTube.
The new firmware also adds the Live View Composite function from the Lumix G90 to the Lumix GH5M2, and extends the Focus Ring Control options to include settings for 720° and 1080°.
Firmware version 1.1 for the Lumix GH5M2 will be made available for download on 30th November 2021 from the support pages of the Panasonic website. Version 2.0 of the Lumix Tether application will also be available for download on the same day.
