Cinema-Quality Video Performance
Recording Modes for a Wide Range of Needs
Multiple recording modes address the needs of modern videography, including image quality, flexibility, and creative expression. In addition to supporting 4K 60p/50p* 4:2:0 10-bit, 4K 30p/25p/24p 4:2:2 10-bit, and anamorphic 4K, the camera allows users to shoot in 4K 8-bit without limiting recording time. Moreover, the heat-dissipating structure developed for the LUMIX GH and SH series of cameras makes possible the combination of a full-frame sensor and a highly compact body.
* In ASP-C or PIXEL/PIXEL settings.
4:2:2 10-bit Internal Recording / HDMI Output
With available internal recording, 10-bit video supports robust color profiles for advanced post-production work. In the 10-bit setting, 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output is supported along with simultaneous external drive / SD card recording.*
Users enjoy high-end cinema camera quality with the convenience of a compact camera body. Image quality that leverages the power of the full-frame sensor takes video to the expressive limit.
* SD card recording not available during 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output.
14+ stops of V-Log and V-Gamut
"VariCam Look"
Offering compatibility with Cinema VariCam Look, 14+ stops of dynamic range, and a very wide color spectrum, V-Log and V-Gamut come preinstalled. Users will enjoy impressively accurate color reproduction, subtle gradations from dark areas to highlights, and precise control of color data in post-production. The end result is more creative and satisfying color expression. Moreover, footage shot with the LUMIX S5 can be seamlessly edited with footage shot with VariCam cameras. As a further convenient touch, the LUT in use is displayed on the camera monitor. The V-Log of the LUMIX S5 offers 14+ stops of dynamic range, which covers the PQ requirement of HDR, while V-Gamut covers the full HDR color spectrum, giving users access to HDR shooting wherever, whenever.

V-Log View Assist
The LUT in use is displayed in both the viewfinder and rear monitor images. When the LUT is applied to HDMI output, it can also be confirmed via an external monitor. In addition to preset LUT Vlog_709, custom LUTs can be loaded and used. These features make getting video deliverables just right that much easier.
Anamorphic Recording
4K anamorphic video can be shot in the 4:3 aspect ratio. Designed to accommodate anamorphic lenses in a wide range of magnification rates, including 1.3x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x, and 2.0x, the Anamorphic Desqueeze Display function makes possible shooting while confirming the cinemascope-size image in-camera.
7.5x Slow Motion and 60x Quick Motion
Slow & Quick motion mode supports both overcranking and undercranking. Users have access to 2.5x slow (24p/60 fps) in 4K and 7.5x super-slow (24p/180 fps) in FHD.* This feature is highly useful in creating emotional slow-motion footage and capturing rapid movement imperceptible to the naked eye. It is also possible to create comically rapid footage of up to 60x normal speed (60p/1 fps).
* The degree of effect varies depending on the recording format and frequency, and the angle of view narrows if a frame rate 180 fps is selected.
4K HDR Video
Since the LUMIX S5 offers both V-Log latitude that fulfills the PQ requirement of HDR dynamic range and V-Gamut that covers the full HDR color spectrum, it is fully ready for HDR video applications. In addition, HDR video in the HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) format can be shot using Photo Style “Like2100.” When the content is replayed on HDR-compatible devices, users will enjoy a powerful video experience with ultra-fine light-to-dark gradations and an incredible dynamic range.
Time Lapse Video with 4K 60p/50p
The LUMIX S5 supports interval capture to create time lapse video in the camera body itself and is also capable of 4K 60p/50p. Still photos can also be shot with V-Log or Like709 for outstanding handling in post-production. Exposure smoothing takes place during processing, resulting in beautiful time lapse videos with smooth exposure changes.
Frame Marker
The frame marker is useful when vertical/horizontal cropping in post-production is anticipated. Displayable aspect ratio frames include 2.39:1 and 2.35:1 for cinema and 1:1 and 4:5 for social media, providing a total of 10 patterns to select from.
Switch NTSC / PAL
To support a wide variety of video applications, the system frequency may be freely switched between NTSC (59.94Hz) and PAL (50.00Hz).
Time Code
When recording in MOV format, the time code may also be recorded.
Measurement of Luminance Level - Luminance Spot Meter
A subject can be selected with the frame and its luminance displayed as a percentage. When recording in V-Log, the camera displays luminance in stops. Setting 18% gray to equal 0.0 stops is helpful in selecting the optimal exposure value.
Measurement of Luminance Level - Wave Form Monitor
This feature makes possible accurate confirmation of the luminance level during shooting.
Measurement of Luminance Level - Zebra Pattern
Two zebra patterns with two different threshold values are displayed, corresponding to user-set upper and lower luminance limits. This feature allows users to monitor for blown-out highlights, adjust for 18% gray during V-Log recording, set a luminance range for human faces, and otherwise assist in achieving an optimal exposure level.
3.5mm Dia. MIC Jack and Headphone Jack
LUMIX S5 features a 3.5mm diameter MIC Jack and 3.5mm diameter Headphone Jack. LINE input is also supported by the 3.5mm MIC Jack, making it possible to input sounds from an external audio device for more efficient video production.
XLR Microphone Adaptor DMW-XLR1 (Sold Separately)
This accessory allows you to connect an XLR microphone. For example, you can record audio lip-synched to a particular video while controlling volume, gain, low cut, automatic level, and other audio functions useful in professional videography.
