With two digital still cameras, the fall of 2001 sees the launch of a system that for many photographers has long been synonymous with innovative and reliable cutting-edge technology: LUMIX.

The DMC-LC5 and DMC-F7 are the first two Panasonic cameras to carry the new LUMIX brand name. What‘s special about both: They work with the optical technology of Leica Camera AG, a company with a long tradition in opticial instruments.

Because only a few months earlier, Leica Camera AG, with its world-renowned technology and Panasonic, with its many years of expertise in the field of digital AV (audio video) technology, joined forces by signing a cooperation treaty - the LUMIX brand was born.

The name LUMIX stands for the smart and sustainable combination of optical and digital imaging technology: LUMI (= luminance) and MIX (= mixture).
