The 4K Photo function allows you to capture a still image with 8-megapixel-equivalent resolution from a 4K video. A Closer Look at 4K Photo Function

The 4K Photo is a new way of photography that Panasonic proposes. It encourages you to capture spur-of-themoment in high resolution 4K photo by cropping out a designated frame out of the 4K video.
It is easier to get 4K photo by using the 4K Photo Mode*. Once selecting the 4K Photo Mode, recording format / picture quality setting / brightness level are automatically set to the optimum parameter for photo shooting.

Once selecting the 4K Photo Mode*, recording format / picture quality setting / brightness level are automatically set to the optimum parameter for photo shooting. This mode also offers a few convenient features for 4K photo.

Setting up for 4K Photo Mode

1. Set the mode dial

On LUMIX cameras, set the mode dial to Movie to switch to movie recording mode.

2. Activate 4K Photo

On the setting screen, set 4K Photo to On. In this mode, settings are optimized for extracting each video frame as a still image. Each JPEG image cropped out of the video footage complies with EXIF just as a normal still picture would.

3. Set the aspect ratio

Switch to another aspect ratio if you wish. By choosing other aspect ratios, you can frame your 4K photos in several ways.

You can record high quality video either in 4:3, 3:2 or even 1:1 aspect in addition to 16:9 - all can provide a still image with 8-megapixel equivalent resolution.

Bookmarking Video Frames

While recording the 4K video in 4K Photo Mode, it is possible to mark the designated part by just pressing the [Fn1] button. This can reduce postproduction work for searching the spur-of-the-moment worth cropping out.

Loop Recording (DMC-GH4 Only)
