The name "NOCTICRON" was newly defined by LEICA CAMERA AG for this lens which achieves a remarkably fast F1.2 aperture. The popular 42.5 mm of middle-telephoto focal distance (35 mm camera equivalent: 85 mm), is definitely suitable for portraits with rich stereoscopic effect. Together with the high-speed aperture, you can utilize beautiful soft focus for more impressive, creative shots. Nine blades give the aperture a rounded shape which produces a smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at a larger aperture.
High-Precision, High-Speed AF
Incorporating a stepping motor makes the focusing action of this lens capable of smooth, silent operation for both photo and video recording. Compared to Phase Difference AF, Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy especially when shooting with a bright lens that has a small F value. This lens takes full advantage of the camera's high-speed AF.
Aperture Control Ring / Metal Design
The aperture ring allows for easy, intuitive operation.
The sophisticated metal design, including the hood, deserves to bear the prestigious LEICA name. The metal mount is durable enough for repeated lens exchanges.
Nano Surface Coating
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes reflection at the entire visual light range (380 nm - 780 nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in super clear pictures with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
POWER O.I.S.
Due to the shallow depth of field that is unique to large aperture lenses, even slight handshake can cause out-of-focus pictures. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) effectively compensates to shoot super clear shots even in low-light situations such as at nighttime or indoors.
